On Friday, 7/20, Midday on WNYC hosted an interesting conversation and call-in show about kids and screen time. The guests were:
- Angela Santomero, co-creator of Blues Clues, Super Why!, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and other children’s programs designed to promote conceptual thinking and social interaction; and,
- Anya Kamenetz, lead education blogger for WNYC and author of The Art of Screen Time: How Your Family Can Balance Digital Media and Real Life and The Test, two books QPS highly recommends.
Two thinkers/writers/creators and parents on the front line of the screen time issue. Yet, both fully acknowledge the limits of their and anyone’s expertise because technology and our habits around it (including those of parents) are changing so rapidly. But they both bear down on the importance of parental involvement when it comes to how their kids spend time on screens.
This is excellent listening for parents, even those who have older kids and for whom this horse is long out of the barn. A half hour very well spent.
